1. Who We Are

Naija Reality Check ("we," "us," "our") operates naijareality.org, a citizen-powered civic data platform. We are an independent, non-partisan organisation not affiliated with any political party or government body in Nigeria.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the platform: • State of residence (or "Diaspora") • Age group bracket (18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55+) • Residence type (Nigeria or Diaspora) • Eight category responses (Better / Same / Worse) • A hashed, anonymous session token • Hashed IP address (for rate-limiting only; never stored raw) • Completion time (for anti-bot detection) • Referral code (if applicable) We do NOT collect: names, email addresses, phone numbers, social media handles, precise location, device identifiers, or any other personally identifiable information.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To calculate national, state, and category scores • To maintain the integrity of the platform (anti-manipulation) • To generate aggregate insights and reports • To improve the platform experience We do not use your data for advertising targeting. We do not sell your data. We do not profile individuals.

4. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored in encrypted PostgreSQL databases (via Supabase) hosted in secure cloud infrastructure. Access is restricted to authorised team members using multi-factor authentication. Backups are encrypted at rest and in transit.

5. Data Retention

Response data is retained for a maximum of 36 months from submission. After this period, data is fully anonymised (session tokens removed) and retained only as statistical aggregates. Aggregated data is retained indefinitely for longitudinal research.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services: • Supabase (database infrastructure) • Vercel (hosting and CDN) • Google Analytics (anonymised site analytics — IP anonymisation enabled) • PostHog (product analytics) • Meta Pixel (optional, can be disabled) All third-party services are contractually bound to handle data in accordance with GDPR and NDPR requirements.

7. Your Rights (NDPR)

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), you have the right to: access the data held about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to processing; and lodge a complaint with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Since we hold no personally identifiable data, most of these rights are satisfied by design.

8. Cookies

We use only essential cookies for session management and anti-manipulation purposes. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect functionality.

9. Children's Privacy

Naija Reality Check is not intended for persons under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has submitted a response, contact us at privacy@naijareality.org.

10. Changes to This Policy

We will notify users of material changes to this policy via a notice on the platform homepage, with a minimum 14-day notice period before changes take effect.
